Leeds United boss Garry Monk has still not been offered a new contract to stay at Elland Road.

Garry Monk has spoken of his strong relationship with the Leeds United squad to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Monk’s future at Elland Road has come into question recently, with the 38-year-old still not offered a contract to stay with Leeds next season.

Although it is believed Monk wants to stick with the Yorkshire club, it is not entirely clear whether Leeds plan to offer him new terms.

Kyle Bartley, who is on loan from Swansea City, spoke up in support of Monk during the week.

The centre-back claimed that he would not return to Leeds, unless Monk was in charge.

And Monk was pleased to hear Bartley’s endorsement of his managerial qualities.

“My relationship with my players has been very strong all season,” Monk said.

“I’m very protective of them, supportive of them and at times very hard on them internally but I think they respect the work we’ve done.”

Leeds fans are almost unanimous in their support for Monk, and there will be uproar if he is allowed to leave.

Leeds have enjoyed their most exciting season in a considerable amount of time this year, even though it has ended in disappointment.

The Whites have been challenging for promotion for the bulk of the campaign, but look set to finish in seventh spot and narrowly miss out on a place in the play offs.
