Leeds United manager Garry Monk has been discussing the transfer dealings at Elland Road this summer.

Speaking to his press conference at Thorp Arch today, ahead of the derby game with Huddersfield Town, he made it clear he was pleased with the club’s activity in the market – which has seen 11 new faces arrive at Elland Road this summer.

However, he also made it clear he was after a striker and that he would not be afraid to take a leap of faith on a free agent if he felt they could add something to the current squad.

Monk stated:

“Whenever you find the right one (free agent), the door is always open.

“I would have liked to have brought in another striker but we brought 11 players in and the club deserve credit.”

The Leeds boss was then quizzed on one name in particular.

Luciano Becchio is currently out of contract after being released by Rotherham United this summer and the Leeds cult hero has been linked with a return to Elland Road.

But the Leeds boss seemed to put an immediate end to that rumour:

“There are a lot of facts to talk about and I don’t like to talk about rumours. It’s a pure rumour.”

Leeds fans have fond memories of the Argentine’s spell at Elland Road – during which he scored 86 goals in 221 games – but are full aware the 32-year-old is not the player he was three years ago – when he left for Norwich City.

But if another, more suitable option, lands on the lap of the Leeds boss you can bet he will be snapping it up.
