The Swedish defender was in good form for Leeds against Luton.
Pontus Jansson
Leeds United recently caught the eye with the signature of Swedish international Pontus Jansson. The Torino centre-back has signed on a season-long loan deal – which could potentially become permanent in the summer.
The move for Jansson certainly strengthens the backline at Leeds and the player got to make his debut in the week.
Leeds United manager Garry Monk before the match
Jansson featured from the start against Luton Town in the EFL Cup this week and Garry Monk was impressed with his performance.
Speaking to the press today, as quoted by TV Yorkshire, the Leeds boss commented on his debut:
“I thought he did well. The plan was always to play him for 60 minutes but he managed to last another 10.
“That’ll do him very good on the physical level. But you can see the type of player that he is. Very aggressive, very good with the ball as well.
Leeds United manager Garry Monk
“He’ll suit the way that we play and the way that we want to go and he’s settled right into the squad straight away. He’ll be an important part of the squad going forward.”
Jansson did not play often for Torino toward the end of his time in Italy and was therefore slightly out of condition when arriving in Yorkshire.
Sweden’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic (L) and Pontus Jansson celebrate after the match
But Leeds are busy whipping the defender into shape and it appears Monk is happy with the progress the player is making.
Once he is at his full fitness levels his aim will be to hold down a starting spot ahead of Kyle Bartley, Liam Cooper and club captain Sol Bamba.
Nottingham Forest are next up for Leeds and it will be interesting to see how Monk lines up.
