Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has been fined £2000 and banned from the touchline for one match after being charged with misconduct by the FA.

The 37-year-old has admitted to using abusive language to a match official and has been reprimanded by the FA.

The incident took place at Ashton Gate when Leeds were defeated 1-0 by Bristol City, ending the club’s four-game winning streak.

Monk was ordered to watch the closing minutes of the match from a seat behind the dugout following an outburst on the touchline.

After the game, Monk said, quoted by the Bristol Post: “I felt (the referee) made some poor decisions. He gave certain free kicks all night and then didn’t give them to us. I was frustrated by that and I felt the injustice for my team.”

He was backed up by Robins head coach, Lee Johnson, who told local media: “I am sure whatever he said was valid.”

After a slow start to the season, Monk has steered Leeds to a steady turnaround at Elland Road as Leeds have bagged five wins in six games across all competitions.

They currently sit mid-table at 11th and will return after the international break to an away game against Derby.

His absence from the game will potentially mean first-team coach James Beattie may take control as assistant Pep Clotet is expecting a baby with his wife and may miss the match.
