Leeds United picked up an important win against Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road yesterday.

Leeds United's manager Garry Monk

Garry Monk has joked on BBC Radio Leeds that even though Pontus Jansson kept heading the ball in the wrong direction, he still played well.

Leeds were forced to defend a number of set-pieces during their 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers, and it was invariably Jansson who was given the task of clearing the danger.

On occasion the Swedish defender failed to direct the ball away from his own penalty area, but he still put in a commanding display.

And Monk said: “He kept heading it the wrong way, but he kept getting his head to it! That was the most important thing.

“I don’t like to single players out. I now have three really good centre-backs and they will all play their parts.”

Jansson has looked impressive in his first few appearances for Leeds, and he has added steel to the Whites’ defence.

Leeds will be looking to build on their victory over Blackburn, which has relieved some of the pressure which was building on them.

The Yorkshire side took the lead in the match through Chris Wood, but they were pegged back when Marvin Emnes lashed in from range.

At that stage it looked as if the match was set to peter out into a disappointing draw, but Kyle Bartley ensured that Leeds got their second victory of the season with a late header.

Leeds are now up to 17th place in the Championship table, and take on Cardiff City in their next fixture.
