Garry Monk has revealed when he first noticed Pontus Jansson as a potential talent, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post and Fotboll Skanalen.

The Swedish central defender has been in fantastic form for Leeds United since he made his move on loan from Italian club Torino.

He has been in excellent form at the heart of defence for Leeds, adding solidity and class to the club’s defensive unit.

Monk rarely singles out players for praise but told the YEP when he first noticed Jansson and it was a while back.

Monk stated that he first saw Jansson play when sitting on the bench as a player for Swansea City in a Europa League qualifier against Malmo back in August 2013 – a game in which the two teams drew 0-0 at the Liberty Stadium.

He stated:

“I was on the bench that night and I always watched players in my position. I remember thinking that he looked good.”

There is no doubt that Leeds fans are pleased that Jansson stayed in the memory.

He has been excellent for the club so far this season and his performances and expletive ridden social media activity have already made him a firm fan favourite at Elland Road.

Here’s hoping he can continue his good form, as Leeds press up the Championship table.
