The Leeds defender is suspended for the Rotherham clash.

Leeds United take on Rotherham United this weekend and will have to do so without one of their key players. Pontus Jansson will be missing the fixture after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Newcastle United at the weekend.

The Swede has become a key figure at Leeds United since arriving from Torino on loan in the summer.

His absence will no doubt worry Leeds fans but Garry Monk seems quite relaxed about the whole affair.

Speaking at his press conference today, as relayed by the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Leeds boss made it clear he was happy with his back-up options, whilst having something to say about picking up ‘silly’ yellow cards:

“We have three really good centre backs here.

“Coops is the natural successor there so we have been working on that this week.

“You want to avoid cheap, silly bookings as much as possible but there’s no big problem.”

Cooper was of course a regular in the Leeds starting XI for much of last season and he has even captained the side so fans at Elland Road will feel that the back-line is in safe hands with Cooper stepping in from the shadows.

He will see it as an opportunity to shine in front Monk and remind him and the Leeds faithful of his talents.

But winning back his place permanently from Jansson will be a much more difficult task.
