Leeds United beat Reading 2-0 at Elland Road yesterday evening.
Garry Monk has told BBC Radio Leeds that Leeds United striker Marcus Antonsson missed out on playing against Reading yesterday because of injury.
Antonsson was not on the substitutes’ bench last night, with youngster Mallik Wilks picked ahead of him.
But Monk insists that the only reason Wilks was promoted to the first-team squad, was because Antonsson was not fit enough to play.
“Marcus pulled up with a back spasm two days ago,” Monk said. “It’s not serious, but he wasn’t ready for tonight’s game. Mallik has been training with us for the season, and we brought him on the bench as we haven’t got the most amount of numbers we would like.”
Antonsson has struggled to make an impact at Elland Road since signing last summer.
The Swede has generally been used as back-up for Chris Wood, with most his appearances being as a substitute.
Antonsson has scored just once in the Championship in 13 appearances.
Wilks did not get on to the pitch against Reading yesterday, but he had a great view as Leeds picked up another impressive win.
The Whites won 2-0 against Jaap Stam’s side – thanks to goals from Wood and Souleymane Doukara.
