Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that he praised Barnsley boss Gerhard Struber at full-time yesterday.

Leeds ran out 1-0 winners over Barnsley yesterday, but as the players celebrated wildly on the pitch, Bielsa was seen in conversation with his opposition manager.

Leeds had been pushed all the way by the Tykes yesterday.

And even Bielsa admits that his side were slightly fortunate to pick up a victory.

“Honestly, I want to recognise the work of our opponent today because they tried, in all the possible ways, possibly they deserved a different result,” Bielsa said. “That’s the comment I made [to Struber].”

Leeds supporters are unlikely to be too concerned about the fortuitous manner of their victory, as it pushes them to the verge of the Premier League.

Leeds now need just one more point from their remaining fixtures to be assured of their top flight status for next season.

The Whites may need to improve on their performance last night in their remaining games if they are able to take that point though.

Leeds were pressed back for large stages by Barnsley, who just couldn’t put the finishing touch on their good work.

Leeds are next in action on Sunday against Derby County.
