Borussia Dortmund star Raphael Guerreiro is in blistering form as links with a move to Leeds United ultimately fade away.

The Whites were widely expected to sign a new left back during the January transfer window.

Junior Firpo hasn’t quite lived up to his billing and Pascal Struijk has been a centre back by trade in his career.

Philadelphia Union star Kai Wagner was heavily linked with a move to Elland Road but nothing materialised in January.

Leeds then did make a signing as Maximilian Wober – who has played as a left back and centre back in his career.

Wober has mostly played centrally for Leeds but he does present another option for Leeds in that left back department.

That means another signing in that area is up in the air amid links to Dortmund star Guerreiro.

Leeds United target Raphael Guerreiro now in blistering form

Links to Portugal international Guerreiro first started back in November.

TEAMtalk reported that Leeds were plotting to offer a pre-contract agreement to Guerreiro.

Guerreiro is out of contract at the end of the season and was eligible for a pre-contract agreement from January 1st.

Transfer insider Dean Jones, who was speaking to Give Me Sport in December, suggested that Leeds were hoping to get a deal done quickly for the left back.

Nothing materialised in January though and Guerreiro is doing absolutely everything he can in order to win a new deal at Dortmund.

Guerreiro enjoyed a stunning start to February by racking up three assists in 5-1 home thrashing of Freiburg.

Guerreiro set up goals for Sebastian Haller, Julian Brandt and Giovanni Reyna, aiding Dortmund’s title aspirations.

The 29-year-old was at it again over the weekend, going on a driving run before setting up Brandt to score in a 2-0 win over Werder Bremen.

That’s four assists in just two games for Guerreiro, who has been providing outstanding attacking quality for Dortmund.

If Leeds aren’t still interested, maybe they should be – and maybe they should watch him against Chelsea tonight.
