Leeds attacker says the team have a lot to work on.
Leeds’ Alex Mowatt on the bench
Leeds United midfielder Alex Mowatt says that the players have been harsh on themselves after their first friendly game, speaking to LUTV.
Despite winning the game against Shelbourne 2-1, the performance could have been better, particularly in the second half.
Rustiness is expected early on in pre-season, but the players and staff sound determined to get it right.
Alex Mowatt celebrates
Mowatt told LUTV: “It went alright I think. We did some good passing, good bits of play, but sloppiness as well, it is good to get rustiness out of our play.
“We had a team meeting on what we did wrong, things like that, there was a lot to work on from the game. We were quite harsh on ourselves yeah.”

Mowatt was in the starting XI for the fixture, which while inconsequential, is a nice confidence boost for a player who by the end of last season seemed short on it.
Leeds’ player of the year in 2014/15, Mowatt faded last season and could not command a regular place in Steve Evans’ line-up.
He now has a fresh chance under Garry Monk, and appears to be feeling positive about the upcoming campaign.
Mowatt added: “I feel quite fit but it’s only the first game. I enjoyed playing in the 10 role last night. I was rusty, I did some good things but I was sloppy as well.”
