When Garry Monk was appointed as Leeds United head coach this summer he moved quickly to bring his former Swansea assistant to Elland Road in the same role.

Pep Clotet joined the Leeds staff in June and the Spaniard is key to Leeds’ hopes of getting something tangible out of this season.

The Catalan has an interesting coaching history, with spells in Norway and Sweden as well as in his Spanish homeland.

The 39-year-old certainly has ambitions, and has a fellow Catalan to look up to.

Pep Guardiola is a big inspiration for the Leeds assistant.

Speaking to Sky Sports he had this to say about the current Manchester City boss:

“Pep Guardiola is a very good reference for a Catalan, because he comes from a small town like me and many others.

“He makes it to the top as a player and a coach but he never forgets where he’s from. He’s still rooted to Catalonia.”

Of course Clotet has quite a way to go yet before he can begin emulating his fellow Catalan.

No doubt Leeds United fans would like to see the club playing like a Guardiola side in the months to come, but so far this season they will be far from it.

Hopefully Clotet’s Catalan influence can soon become more visible in the performances of the Leeds United first-team performances.
