Leeds United target Arne Slot has moved another step closer to winning the Eredivisie title after Feyenoord secured a dramatic win.

VoetbalZone were the first to report Leeds’ interest in appointing Slot as their new manager.

The Whites sacked Jesse Marsch earlier this month and turned to Slot as a potential replacement.

Yet according to De Telegraaf’s Kick Off podcast, Slot rejected a deal worth around £75,000-a-week at Leeds and chose to stay at Feyenoord.

The situation isn’t over yet though; The Sunday Mirror (12/02, back page) claim that Feyenoord think Leeds could still move for Slot at the end of the season.

That would require Leeds to have an interim manager in place until the summer, which is up in the air at the moment.

Feyenoord are resting easy for the moment and are pushing towards a league title – just as Leeds’ relegation fears mount.

Leeds target Arne Slot takes another step towards Feyenoord title win

Leeds were beaten 1-0 away at Everton on Saturday afternoon and now sit second-bottom of the Premier League table.

Just a few hours later, Slot was managing in a massive game as Feyenoord took on Slot’s former club AZ Alkmaar at De Kuip.

AZ were just two points behind Feyenoord heading into the game and they actually went ahead through a Javairo Dilrosun own goal.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh hauled Feyenoord level but it looked like the game would fade away into a 1-1 draw.

There was a late twist though as Marcus Pedersen looped a left-footed shot over Mat Ryan to give Feyenoord a dramatic 90th minute winner.

The goal sparked wild scenes at De Kuip as Feyenoord move five points clear at the top of the Eredivisie table.

Slot’s decision to stay at Feyenoord may well pay off with a league title rather than join Leeds in their relegation battle.

If Leeds go down, they will have no chance of landing Slot and their managerial situation is getting pretty desperate at this point.
