Leeds United missed out on Arne Slot in February and he is now being likened to Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

Jesse Marsch’s exit last month meant Leeds chased a number of potential replacements.

One of the top targets for Victor Orta was Feyenoord boss Slot, but Leeds weren’t able to get a deal done.

De Telegraaf’s Kick Off podcast claimed that Slot received an offer worth around £75,000-a-week from Leeds – but he decided to stay at Feyenoord.

The matter may not be completely over just yet.

The Sunday Mirror (12/02, back page) claimed that Feyenoord feared Leeds would be back for Slot this summer after making a short-term appointment.

Javi Gracia was appointed after that claim and has a ‘flexible’ contract, which doesn’t exactly close the door on Leeds trying again for Slot this summer.

Arne Slot touted as next Erik ten Hag

Slot is currently focused on Feyenoord and that is going pretty well for him.

Sunday’s 3-2 win over Ajax gave Feyenoord their first league win in Amsterdam since way back in 2005.

That win leaves Feyenoord as the clear favourites to win the Eredivisie title and Sunday’s win sparked wild celebrations in Rotterdam.

The title isn’t done just yet but Slot is so close to making himself a Feyenoord hero – and he’s even reached the last eight of the Europa League too.

Slot’s stock is growing by the week and Leeds may well find that other clubs now fancy appointing him.

Slot has earned massive praise in the Netherlands with former Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink paying tribute.

Hiddink has been quoted by FR12 as saying that he thinks Ten Hag deserves huge praise for his work at Feyenoord and believes he could be the next Erik ten Hag in terms of becoming an internationally-renowned manager.

“What he does at Feyenoord deserves all the praise,” said Hiddink. “It could well be that he is the next one to break through internationally after Erik ten Hag at Manchester United,” he added.

It seems difficult to imagine Slot moving to Leeds now, but don’t be surprised to see him managing in the Premier League against the Whites one day…
