Leeds United want Arnaud Kalimuendo but now face a battle with Rennes amid fears that the Paris Saint-Germain striker may head elsewhere.
The Whites are now looking to splash the cash on a new striker to support Patrick Bamford.
Leeds have been quick to bring in a number of signings this summer but, as expected, signing a quality striker takes a little more time.
Leeds continue to hope for a deal with Club Brugge for Charles De Ketelaere whilst Fenerbahce hitman Mergim Berisha has been linked in recent days.
Leeds United want Arnaud Kalimuendo
Another name in the mix is Arnaud Kalimuendo, who has been linked with Leeds for more than a month now.
The Independent reported in June that Leeds had made an offer worth around £17million for Paris Saint-Germain striker Kalimuendo.
The deal hasn’t really gone anywhere yet though and Leeds now face missing out.
French newspaper L’Equipe report that Rennes have made first contact over a potential deal as they look to sign the 20-year-old.
Initial talks are underway and Rennes are now a major rival to Leeds, who have received more bad news.
L’Equipe add that Leeds just aren’t a priority for Kalimuendo this summer, as relayed by GFFN.

Kalimuendo is seemingly waiting to see if other offers arrive from elsewhere, with Nice also interested in signing him.
Kalimuendo has spent two seasons out on loan at Lens, hitting 21 goals in 65 outings before returning to PSG this summer.
A product of the PSG academy, Kalimuendo may have dreams of shining for Christophe Galtier’s side but that seems unlikely.
Leeds would be willing to give Kalimuendo a key role at Elland Road, offering the chance for him to become just like former PSG talents Christopher Nkunku and Moussa Diaby.
For now, it looks like Kalimuendo isn’t all that interested – and it may leave Victor Orta having to go back to the drawing board in search of a striker.
