Leeds United may have appointed Jesse Marsch as their new boss but they seemingly gave major consideration to a shock move for Raul.

Yes, that Raul.

The Real Madrid legend was a household name in his playing days, racking up 323 goals in 741 games for Real.

The 44-year-old has now turned is hand to coaching and has been in charge of Real Madrid Castilla since 2019.

Real are seemingly trying to create a pathway for Raul to become first-team boss one day. After all, that’s how Zinedine Zidane earned his rise.

Now though, Spanish newspaper Marca claim that Andrea Radrizzani seriously considered a move to bring Raul to Leeds.

Marcelo Bielsa left the club in February and Leeds had to move on quickly despite his emotional exit.

Jesse Marsch ended up winning the job and has all but secured Leeds’ status as a Premier League club.

It could have all been so different though as Raul was being lined up for a shock move to Elland Road.

Schalke and Eintracht Frankfurt also like Raul, but it was Leeds who came closest to making an actual move.

Raul looks to be an exciting coach and may have a future as Real Madrid’s first-team boss. This would have been a huge gamble from Radrizzani though.

Leeds were in a dire position when Bielsa left and going for a rookie manager would have been daring at best, naive at worst.

At least Marsch had managed in the United States, Austria and Germany before his move to Leeds.

Marsch has seemingly kept Leeds in the Premier League now, but if he moves on in the near future, don’t be surprised to see Raul on the radar again.
