Leeds United and Bielsa should push to land Tottenham’s Juan Foyth

Incoming Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa should be targeting Tottenham defender Juan Foyth.

Leeds United are still hoping to appoint maverick Argentine boss Marcelo Bielsa, with the Yorkshire Evening Post reporting talks are ongoing.

Bielsa is highly regarded and a manager who Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino views as his inspiration.

Describing him as ‘one of the best managers in the world’, via The Guardian in 2015, Bielsa managed Pochettino at Newell’s and latterly for Argentina’s national team.

With this strong connection in mind, Bielsa should be looking to make Tottenham signing Juan Foyth one of his early signings, on a loan deal.

Argentine defender Foyth joined Spurs from Estudiantes last summer for around £10 million, but he did not start a single Premier League game.

BBC Sport report Bielsa prefers to sign young players, as seen in his most recent stint with Lille.

A move for 20-year-old Foyth could be ideal, and while he is due to feature more for Spurs this season if Toby Alderweireld leaves, Bielsa could persuade Pochettino that a full season under him is best for his development.

Pochettino learned under Bielsa, and letting the young protege do the same will benefit his career.

Foyth featured in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup last season and needs a bigger role.

He is a ball playing centre-back, and his attributes are an ideal fit for Bielsa’s style of football.

Leeds need more defenders, especially with club captain Liam Cooper failing to win over supporters, and Bielsa’s preference for three at the back.

The chance to work under the legendary Bielsa is not a chance Foyth would want to turn down, especially when the alternative could be spending a season sitting on the bench for Spurs.
