Leeds United could only appoint Alfred Schreuder on a deal until the end of the season after his visit to Elland Road.

That’s according to a report from iNews, who claim that Schreuder is now set to become Leeds manager.

The Whites sacked Jesse Marsch last week and have been rebuffed in a number of managerial pursuits.

Schreuder was spotted at Sunday’s game against Manchester United, setting tongues wagging over a potential deal.

It’s suggested that Schreuder is set to land the job and could be in charge against Everton this coming weekend.

However, the report also claims that Leeds may choose to make an appointment until the summer and review the situation then.

Schreuder is available after being sacked by Ajax in January and Leeds could give him a swift return to management.

Top Leeds targets could be available after short-term Alfred Schreuder stint

It would be a little surprising to see Schreuder sign on for just a few months, but maybe he thinks he can prove himself in that time.

There would be a strong chance of Leeds going in another direction though based on their recent targets.

Rayo Vallecano boss Andoni Iraola would be more likely to leave the La Liga club in the summer than right now.

The same goes for Feyenoord’s Arne Slot; The Sunday Mirror (12/02, back page) claim that Feyenoord fear Leeds will appoint somebody until the summer and then activate an exit clause in Slot’s deal that only applies this summer.

Going for Schreuder would certainly fit into that fear with Slot currently focused on trying to win the Eredivisie title for Feyenoord.

Another target – Marcelo Gallardo – is currently on sabbatical and would also be more willing to take a new role in the summer.

This may be the new Leeds plan; give Schreuder a chance until the summer and leave the door open for their true top targets to make the move.

That’s not ideal for Schreuder but a Premier League job – even if only promised for a few months – may appeal after being ditched by Ajax.
