Alfred Schreuder appears to be a major contender for the Leeds United job having been spotted at today’s game against Manchester United.

That’s according to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, who claims that Schreuder has been spotted at Elland Road this afternoon.

McGrath adds that Schreuder is now a ‘serious’ candidate to become Leeds manager following the sacking of Jesse Marsch.

Schreuder did work as an assistant to Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag at Ajax, so there is a possibility he is just watching his fellow Dutchman’s team.

Yet it’s specifically suggested that Schreuder is now in real contention for the Leeds job and a quick return to management.

Leeds have been linked with the likes of Carlos Corberan, Marcelo Gallardo, Arne Slot and Andoni Iraola but Schreuder is now emerging as a potential appointment.

Who is Leeds United target Alfred Schreuder?

Schreuder had a lengthy career as a player, starting with Feyenoord before racking up the appearances for RKC Waalwijk and NAC Breda.

Schreuder returned to Feyenoord in 2003 before turning out for the likes of Twente and Vitesse Arnhem.

Vitesse is where Schreuder started his coaching career, becoming an assistant to Theo Bos before heading to FC Twente to join Steve McClaren’s staff.

Schreuder stayed under Michel Jansen and Co Adriaanse, before then heading to Hoffenheim to work with Julian Nagelsmann and Huub Stevens.

The Dutchman continued his trend of working with high-profile coaches as he joined up with Ten Hag at Ajax in 2018, staying for 18 months before securing his first managerial job.

Hoffenheim lured him back to Germany but with a record of 14 wins, seven draws and 12 defeats, he was sacked after 33 games.

Schreuder went back to being an assistant manager as he joined Ronald Koeman at Barcelona, but they left together in October 2021.

A move to Belgium materialised in January 2022 as he took charge of Club Brugge, winning 15 of his 21 games in charge to secure the league title.

Ajax then chose him as the successor to Ten Hag last summer, but Schreuder was sacked in late January having won 12 of his 26 games in charge of the Amsterdam giants.

The 50-year-old’s career is a real mixed bag but Leeds may now see him as the man to come in after Marsch’s departure.
