Leeds United centre-back Pontus Jansson has reassured fans he believes his injury sustained on international duty is only minor.

Jansson was substituted for Sweden after sustaining an injury to his knee in the 1-1 international draw with Norway.

Leeds can ill afford a serious injury to the centre-back, and fortunately it appears he should make a swift recovery.

Speaking to Swedish outlet Fotboll Skanalen, Jansson spoke positively about his situation.

He said: “I think it’s cool, it was just a bang. It was just over the knee.

“I do not know what happened. I have not seen the situation myself. I was not prepared to get a bang. I was hurt and could not complete the game. But it feels quite alright. I’ll check it tomorrow for safety, but it still feels okay.”

Jansson suggested he was now very much looking forward to having a break.

He added: “I’m leaving home now and I’m going to disconnect completely.”

Early next month Jansson will be reporting for pre-season training at Leeds United, and by that point he will hope the Whites have found a replacement for head coach Garry Monk.

They are currently undertaking a thorough search for his successor, and it appears Jansson will be fully fit by time he is required for his club.

In an off-season of drama for Leeds, the fact Jansson’s injury is only minor, is a welcome piece of good news.
