Leeds United’s season has come to an end. There is still one more match left to play, but Leeds’s chances of finishing in the top six of the Championship are gone.

Failure to win against Norwich City on Saturday afternoon means that Leeds will not end up in the playoffs.

The Whites were 3-0 down to Norwich at Elland Road after 45 minutes, but they staged a comeback in the second period to pick up a point.

The point from the 3-3 draw was not enough, though, as Leeds are now set to play in the Championship during the 2017-18 campaign.

Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was following the match, and he has given his reaction on the team’s failure to end up in the top six to BBC Sport.

“What the Leeds players must be feeling, now – they’ll know it will only come down to a couple of points,” Whelan told BBC Sport.

“It’s about performances, and Leeds haven’t maintained that level of quality. I feel sorry for them, but we’ve said a few times this season that Leeds have not shown up for the first 45 minutes.”

Over the course of the 90 minutes at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, hosts Leeds had 49% of the possession, took 14 shots of which five were on target, and earned four corners, according to BBC Sport.

Visitors Norwich had 51% of the possession, took 15 shots of which seven were on target, and earned two corners, according to BBC Sport.
