BBC Sport pundit Matthew Kilgallon has said that Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray played “really well” against Cardiff City at Elland Road in the Championship on Sunday.

Matthew Kilgallon has said on BBC Radio Leeds (4:17pm, August 6, 2023) that Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray was very good in the 2-2 draw with Cardiff City at Elland Road.

Leeds kicked off their Championship campaign with a draw with Cardiff on Sunday.

Cardiff were 2-0 up after 39 minutes.

However, Daniel Farke’s side staged a comeback in the second half and scored two goals to pick up a point from the encounter.

Gray started the match for the home team and played until the third minute of injury time.

The 17-year-old started alongside Ethan Ampadu in Leeds’s central midfield.

Archie Gray impressive for Leeds United vs Cardiff City

Former Leeds centre-back Kilgallon was on co-commentary duty for the match on BBC Radio Leeds.

And he was impressed.

Kilgallon said about Gray: “He has done really well, 17 years old. He has gone and got the ball.

“He took one too many touches now and again, but he will learn that. But, to show what he has shown today, he is only going to get better.”

As Kilgallon has noted, Archie Gray was really impressive for Leeds against Cardiff.

The 17-year-old looked very comfortable in the middle of the park and did not shy away from asking for the ball.

The England Under-17 international showed some very good touches and passes.

We believe that Gray had a very good match and is only going to get better.

There were one or two occasions when the midfielder was caught off, but you cannot expect a 17-year-old to be flawless in a tough Championship match.

During his time on the pitch at Elland Road, Gray took two shots which were not on target, played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 78.3%, took 85 touches, made one tackle, and put in four crosses.
