Leeds United boss Garry Monk has delivered an update on the fitness of Charlie Taylor, who is still struggling to get back in the Leeds team after his recent injury trouble.

The talented defender came off in the 1-0 win over Brentford in December with an achilles injury and returned to action for the 1-1 draw with Fulham recently.

But he was on the bench for the 0-0 draw with QPR at the weekend, with Gaetano Berardi still doing a good job at left-back.

But with Luke Ayling suspended this weekend Taylor is expected to start against Brighton and Monk says he is set to go, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, but that he must be handled with care.

Taylor’s return is timely but he will struggle to permanently usurp Berardi from his role at left-back, given the good form the Swiss defender has been in for Leeds over the past few months.

The talented defender, who is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with plenty of Premier League clubs over the past 12 months will no doubt be wanting to play as much football as possible.

This weekend he will need to prove himself to Monk if he is going to get such a chance.
