Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville wanted to leave the club in January – but was forced to stay because no replacements could be found.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Crysenecio had made his mind up and wanted to leave Elland Road.
The Dutch wide man wasn’t short of interest, with Rangers allegedly keen to take him to Ibrox.
Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst worked with Summerville at Feyenoord and fancied reuniting.
The main suitor was German side Hamburg, but as reported by Fabrizio Romano, a late January deal collapsed.
It’s now suggested that Summerville did directly ask to leave Leeds, but was forced to stay.
Leeds felt that the available wingers wouldn’t be to Marcelo Bielsa’s liking, so stuck with Summerville instead.
Bielsa has admitted that he was actually happy to let Summerville leave simply because he has asked to go.
That was enough for Bielsa, who made it clear he only wanted players who were fully focused on playing for Leeds.
You can understand Summerville’s desire to leave and play first-team football elsewhere. This season, the 20-year-old has yet to start a Premier League game.

Across five substitute appearances, Summerville has played just 119 Premier League minutes. That’s just not enough for a player who seems to be too good for Premier League 2.
Branded a ‘nightmare’ in training by Jamie Shackleton due to movement, the speedy winger needs to be tested.
Leeds don’t seem ready to give him regular minutes, and his path is blocked by three expensive wingers in Raphinha, Daniel James and Jack Harrison.
This situation is likely to come up again this summer, with Summerville seemingly far from happy with his role at Leeds.
