Leeds United’s under-23 coach hits back.
Leeds United under-23 boss Carlos Corberan has responded to criticism of the make up of his side.
Former Leeds player Ian Harte hit out in a ‘furious’ Twitter post, claiming the academy felt too Spanish and feared the club was losing their identity.
Corberan, appointed last June after Leeds’ under-23s finished bottom of their division, took to social media this evening to say he is proud of his players wherever they are from.
Harte sent the following messages after the team’s 2-2 draw with Birmingham City.
Harte’s comments have divided opinion, but what is important is that the efforts being made by Leeds are with the intentions for the good of the club.
The Whites have attracted players from Barcelona, Ajax, Real Madrid, Deportivo and Benfica over the past year, as well as Crystal Palace, York City and Leyton Orient.
Young players will naturally be behind in their language studies and multi-linguistic Corberan has been trying to communicate to each of them as best he can.
It is far too early to judge the club’s approach although Harte’s comments should serve as a reminder of the importance so many place in the academy and the passion they have for it.
