Leeds United have clearly not forgotten Brentford boss Dean Smith’s comments following last season’s meeting.

In one of the more bizarre explanations for a defeat, Brentford boss Dean Smith suggested, in comments reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, that Leeds won the two sides’ meeting at Elland Road last season partially due to the length of the grass on the pitch.
Leeds won that day 1-0 thanks to a Liam Cooper header. It was a rare highlight during Paul Heckingbottom’s brief tenure at the club, and it leaves the Whites going into Saturday’s meeting looking for their third consecutive home win against the Bees.
There is a significantly different feel about this Leeds side at the moment however. Marcelo Bielsa’s men top the Championship following their 1-0 win over Hull City in midweek, and they can virtually guarantee that they will go into the international break at the table’s summit if they win before most of their rivals kick off.
Brentford find themselves in a familiar position in the top-half of the table. Smith’s side are sixth and are once again playing some of the best football in the league this year.

Given that they continue to play some excellent football, Smith may be pleased to know that Leeds have cut the grass ahead of the game. What he may not be pleased about is the fact that the Whites have taken to Twitter to confirm that, obviously trolling Smith’s comments from last season.
Smith felt that Leeds let the grass grow to stop Brentford playing their preferred brand of football on that occasion. And the Whites have decided to remind him of those comments ahead of the latest contest.

While Leeds have given themselves the early advantage with the excellent tweet, Bielsa’s men have arguably been put under a little more pressure to bag the three points as this is the kind of tweet that could come back to haunt the Whites if Smith’s Brentford come out on top…
