Leeds United are reportedly one of three Premier League clubs to recently make an approach to sign ACF Fiorentina defender Igor Julio, with interest growing in the Brazilian centre-back.

According to Firenze Viola, the Whites, as well as Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion, have all made enquiries for the 24-year-old, who Fiorentina are open to selling this January if a club is willing to match the ‘physically humongous’ defender’s €20m (£17m) price tag.

Igor has been a regular for Fiorentina this season and has impressed for the Tuscan side throughout the campaign, so much so that there is now quite a bit of interest in the Brazilian defender, with the likes of Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Real Betis also chasing the centre-back as per the report.

A versatile defender who can play both centrally and as a left-back, Igor has already made 20 appearances in all competitions for Fiorentina this campaign, yet with Leeds now making an approach to sign the defender, there could be a chance for the Italian side to cash in.

Indeed, numerous Fiorentina players have attracted interest this January, though it appears that Igor is the first name the Serie A side are thinking about offloading given the amount of interest in the former SPAL star, with Leeds an ideal destination for the defender.

Whilst Leeds have spent on a versatile centre-back already this month, an extra defensive option wouldn’t be the worst thing for the Whites to do with the limited time remaining in the transfer window, and Igor could be a great option given the Brazilian’s performances this season.

With Premier League approaches and interest from Atletico and Sevilla, it’s safe to say that Igor is a man in demand, and for Leeds, the Whites should ensure they are the club who wins the race to sign the defender given how much work Jesse Marsch’s backline needs.

Leaking in goals has been an issue for Leeds ever since their return to the Premier League, and signing a man-mountain of a defender in Igor could be a big step in the right direction for the Whites to plug up some holes that have led to many dropped points already this campaign.
