Leeds United have reportedly joined the growing list of clubs interested in signing Facundo Medina, who has starred for RC Lens this season in Ligue 1.

According to ASRomaLive, the Whites have joined Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham in the race to sign the Argentine defender, with Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma also interested in the 23-year-old, who has been sensational for Lens this campaign in what is shaping up to be a historic year for the club.

The defender has made 26 appearances in all competitions for the northern France side, with Lens currently sat third in the standings as Medina has played a big role in pushing the Ligue 1 side’s European bid, and now, clubs are interested in signing the defender.

Leeds have been linked with the former Argentine youth international in the past under Marcelo Bielsa, and it now appears that the club remain interested in the defender, who could be sold by Lens if they fail to finish in a European place come the end of the season.

Indeed, Leeds are in need of reinforcements at the back this summer with Javi Gracia’s side boasting one of the worst defensive records in the Premier League, and Medina could be a welcome addition for the Yorkshire side if they can beat out the likes of Brighton and Roma to the South American.

With Villa and West Ham also in the mix, competition is strong for Medina, who could be spoilt for choice come the end of the season. And for Leeds, they need to ensure they are the club who wins the race to sign the 23-year-old, who could be an outstanding addition.

Leeds signing Medina could be an exceptional coup for next season

A defensive staple for one of the best clubs in France this season, Medina’s stock has rightly risen quite a lot this campaign, and for Leeds, beating their Premier League rivals and Mourinho to the centre-back would be a great coup for the Elland Road side for next year.

Of course, a transfer will likely hinge on Leeds’ surviving relegation, and with Medina now a target, the Whites know that they must do all they can to remain in the Premier League ahead of what will be a huge summer for the Yorkshire giants.
