Leeds United are now reportedly in talks to sign Servette FC talent Diogo Monteiro, with the Whites keen to bring in a few more players before the closure of the January transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail, the Yorkshire side have increased their efforts to sign the 17-year-old Portuguese youth international with Leeds now in talks with Servette to bring the defender to Elland Road, with Monteiro seemingly keen to leave Switzerland.

Monteiro has enjoyed a breakout year in the Swiss Super League this season with the defender making nine appearances in all competitions for Servette, with the centre-back also earning his first call-ups for Portugal’s U-19s based on his performances at club level.

Lauded by Scouted Football as a ‘promising’ and ‘clever’ defensive talent, Leeds are seemingly working hard at trying to secure Monteiro’s signature following his debut season in the professional game, with Jesse Marsch’s side set for a late flurry of business.

As per the Daily Mail, Weston McKennie has emerged as a target for Leeds with Birmingham City midfielder George Hall another player the Whites are keen to sign this January, and Monteiro could be another player who soon makes their way to Yorkshire before next week’s deadline.

Leeds signing Monteiro would be shrewd business from Orta

Victor Orta’s reputation as one of the best sporting directors in Europe is fairly established, and the Leeds official could be set for another shrewd deal in the market with the signing of Monteiro, who could be a great long-term addition for the Whites.

As mentioned, Monteiro is a talent with a big future in the game having broken into Servette’s senior squad and the Portugual youth set-up, and for Leeds, the defender could become a crucial player for Marsch in the years to come if the defender can hit the ground running in Yorkshire.
