Leeds United are interested in securing a transfer for Servette talent Diogo Monteiro in the January market. The teenager has blown the Whites’ scouts away with his impressive form.
That is according to Sky Sports, which reports Leeds scouts are pushing director of football Victor Orta to sign Monteiro. He has impressed the Elland Road club’s talent spotters with his performances at such a young age. The centre-half will turn 18 years old on January 28.
Monteiro’s displays for Servette caught the eye of Leeds’ scouting department after taking hold of a first-team role this season. The defender enjoyed his senior debut in March 2021 but did not play again until this term. He has made six of his seven outings during 2022/23.
Now, Leeds scouts are pushing Orta to agree on terms with Servette to secure Monteiro’s transfer. They are keen to see the Portugal Under-19 international move to West Yorkshire as he can be a player for their future. Even though he has only started two senior matches.
Monteiro opened a first-team fixture for the first time against BSC Young Boys in the Super League in November. He also started against fourth-tier side FC Wohlen in the Swiss Cup in November. But coach Alain Geiger replaced Monteiro at the break whilst on a yellow card.

Reports by The Athletic have also cited Leeds’ interest in securing Monteiro’s transfer from Servette. It also notes that the Whites are preparing a bid for the Geneva-born gem. Leeds consider him to be a ‘major defensive prospect’ with a raft of admirable attributes already.
The Elland Road natives admire Monteiro for his ball-playing abilities as a centre-half. They also appreciate his strong mobility and technique at just 17 years old. A transfer may soon follow, as well, as Phil Hay adds on his podcast that the club are waiting for him to turn 18.
