Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United have made a late move to sign Nicolo Zaniolo from AS Roma, according to CM.
Leeds United want AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo
The Italian news outlet has claimed that Leeds asked about Zaniolo while Roma were doing a deal over central defender Diego Llorente.
The Premier League club then returned with an offer for the 23-year-old Italy international attacking midfielder, described as “extraordinary” by Roma head coach Jose Mourinho on the club’s YouTube channel in August 2022.
Leeds have told Roma that they want to sign the Italian playmaker on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The Whites want to have the obligation to make the deal permanent under certain conditions.
Roma have turned down Leeds’s offer.
The report has added that the £76,000-a-week (SalarySport) Italian himself is holding out for a move to defending Serie A champions AC Milan.

Ambitious
In our view, it is quite ambitious of Leeds United to try to sign Nicolo Zaniolo from AS Roma on January transfer deadline day.
The Whites are in danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
And Roma are in the running for the Serie A top four.
Yes, the Italian club want to sell Zaniolo now, but with clubs such as AC Milan interested in him, it is hard to see the youngster make the move to Leeds.
