Fabrizio Romano has stated that interest is building for Leeds United defender Robin Koch, who could leave the Whites this summer in the transfer window.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, the Italian journalist revealed that the 26-year-old centre-back is subject to interest from rivals clubs, with Romano saying on Koch’s future: “Koch has many clubs interested, but it’s not something [a departure from Leeds] advanced at this stage.”

An £11m signing in Leeds’ first season back in the Premier League, Koch has been one of the Yorkshire side’s best transfers since returning to the big time in 2020, with interest now increasing for the defender ahead of a potential exit from Elland Road this summer.

One club who could sign Koch is Newcastle United, who according to Bild journalist Christian Falk are keeping tabs on the former Freiburg star as Eddie Howe looks to flesh out his defensive options as the Magpies look to plan their transfer strategy around a return to European football.

Indeed, with Leeds a contender for relegation, Koch could be a great signing for the likes of Newcastle, and with more clubs now interested in the defender, there’s a strong chance that a summer transfer away from Yorkshire could now be on the cards for the centre-back.

Even if Leeds can pull off another great escape and reclaim their Premier League status, Koch’s future with Javi Gracia’s side is still up in the air amid interest from some big clubs, yet a departure could be beneficial for all parties this summer.

Koch has been a regular for Leeds since joining the club in 2020 and has even worn the captain’s armband on a few occasions, yet with the Whites faltering defensively and another summer rebuild on the horizon, a transfer away could be ideal for the German defender.

As we know, the centre-back is heading into the prime of his career, and with Koch spending three years at Leeds, now could be a good time to move on from the Yorkshire side for greener pastures elsewhere, especially with clubs like Newcastle now interested in the centre-back.
