Angers president Said Chabane has reportedly travelled to England amid rumours that Leeds United have recently made a £22m transfer offer to sign Azzedine Ounahi.

According to L’Equipe, the Ligue 1 official landed in England this Monday with Chabane looking to close a transfer that will likely see Ounahi sign for Leeds, with Calico Napoli 24 reporting that the Whites have submitted a €25m (£22m) bid for the Moroccan international.

Ounahi was one of the stars of the 2022 FIFA World Cup as the midfield played a massive role in Morocco’s incredible run to the semi-finals. And to the surprise of nobody, the youngster is now wanted by some of Europe’s biggest clubs this January.

However, despite interest from the likes of Serie A leaders Napoli and Tottenham according to La Repubblica, it is Leeds who are leading the race to sign Ounahi this window, with the Angers president now seemingly in England to finalise the transfer of the midfielder to Elland Road.

Leeds have been one of the busiest Premier League clubs in the window this January, with Jesse Marsch’s side recently spending a club-record fee to sign French talent Georginio Rutter, with the Yorkshire side also signing RB Salzburg defender Maximilian Wober.

Indeed, Ounahi would be an impressive signing given how good the midfielder was at the World Cup and how highly-rated the youngster already was heading into Qatar. And for Leeds, this update is an encouraging sign that a deal could be completed soon.

On paper, Leeds have one of the most exciting young squads in the Premier League led by one of the best young coaches in football. However, most supporters would agree that a balance needs to be struck in the midfield, which is why signing Ounahi would feel like such a big coup.

As we know, the midfielder is a dribbling and progressing machine, and under a manager like Marsch, Ounahi could not only perfectly balance out the midfield, but also add more depth to a position that Leeds are in desperate need of in the squad.
