According to La Nuova Sardegna, Leeds United may be ready to pay the release clause of Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez.
Leeds secured a midtable finish in their first season back in the Premier League, and are now looking for additions to Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.
A new midfielder seems to be a priority, and it’s no great shock that Nandez is being strongly linked once again.
Leeds United’s pursuit of Nandez
It’s claimed that Marcelo Bielsa is ‘insistently’ asking for the diminutive Nandez to be signed this summer, viewing him as a top target.
Cagliari are sticking to Nandez’s release clause of €36million (£31million), but the start of the article reads that Leeds are ‘ready to pay the release clause’.
That seems unlikely given the huge cash needed, but Nandez has been a long-term target for the Whites, and they may see him as being worth the cash.

Inter Milan a major threat
One other problem for Leeds is that the report claims talks to send Nandez to Inter Milan are heating up.
It’s noted that Cagliari want to sign both Federico Dimarco and Radja Nainggolan, meaning both Inter players could move on as part of a deal for Nandez.
That leaves Leeds in a difficult position, and signing those two players will be very appealing to Cagliari, meaning the release clause may have to be paid in order for Leeds to win the race.
