Weston McKennie has reportedly agreed a contract proposal from Leeds United despite interest from the likes of Arsenal, with the Juventus midfielder now seemingly set to sign for the Elland Road side.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the USA international has accepted Leeds’ proposal over a potential move to Yorkshire, with Jesse Marsch keen on signing the Juventus star and adding another American name to his evergrowing arsenal.

The news will come as a huge blow for Arsenal, who according to Gazzetta dello Sport had recently made contact with Juventus over McKennie, who now looks set to join Leeds in what could be one of the most surprising transfers of the entire January window.

With the Old Lady demanding as much as €40m (£35m) for McKennie as per Sky Sports News, Leeds could be about to match their club-record transfer fee having already spent a similar amount for French youngster Georginio Rutter, though the Serie A midfielder potentially joins as a more established player.

Indeed, with Arsenal also in the running to sign McKennie, Leeds winning the race for the 24-year-old would be quite the result for the Yorkshire side, especially with Marsch already making a decent string of transfers this January to strengthen the Whites.

Arsenal’s main transfer priority in the market before the closure of the window is clearly a central midfielder, and considering what McKennie brings to the table, the Juventus star would have been perfect for the Gunners, which is why Leeds signing the American would be a major blow for Mikel Arteta.

With Leeds still in a relegation battle, there’s every chance that McKennie could regret moving to Yorkshire given Arsenal’s position at the top of the Premier League table. And for the north London side themselves, they could gave to reevaluate their options before the window closes next week.
