Leeds United and Tottenham could face an uphill battle to sign Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah this January, with AC Milan eager to land the 23-year-old centre-back in the upcoming transfer window.

According to CalcioMercato, the reigning Serie A champions are keen to make a swoop for the Cobham academy graduate, with Christian Pulisic also in Milan’s sights as Stefan Pioli looks to bolster his squad in January, with Chalobah set to leave west London.

The defender was heavily linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge during the summer, with Leeds and Tottenham both interested in signing Chalobah according to 90min and the Evening Standard, with Everton and AS Roma also in the race to recruit the Chelsea youngster.

However, despite obvious signs that Chalobah wasn’t going to be a regular for Chelsea this season with the Blues signing Wesley Fofana, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucrella, the defender was denied the chance to leave west London in the summer as reported by Gianluca Di Marzio.

With Chalobah playing just once all season, it appears that the defender will now stop at nothing to leave Chelsea in January, and Milan are eager to ensure they are the side that wins the race for the 23-year-old, a player Thomas Tuchel previously hailed as ‘fantastic’.

Indeed, whilst Leeds and Tottenham could give Milan a good battle to sign Chalobah, there Italian giants have shown with Fikayo Tomori that they are a club willing to give young centre-backs the opportunity to succeed, with the former Chelsea star now arguably England’s best defender ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Chalobah was one of the surprise breakout players of last season, with the defender, who looked set to leave Chelsea on loan again at the start of the campaign, emerging as one of the club’s best players and featuring heavily for Tuchel throughout the year. However, this fairytale now looks to be over, and joining Milan could be a great move.

After all, Milan’s policy and commitment to signing and developing young players is second-to-none in Europe, and with a former Cobham star in Tomori already at the club, Chalobah moving to the San Siro might be the perfect move for the youngster despite interest from the the likes of Leeds and Tottenham.
