Leeds United will reportedly target Harry Wilson should they manage to get promoted this season.
It was reported by The Sun on Sunday (3/3; page 61) over the weekend that Leeds plan to make a move for Liverpool midfielder Harry Wilson should they manage to get promoted out of the Championship.
Wilson has arguably been Derby’s best player over the course of the season. His form has perhaps tailed off more recently, but he has still contributed 10 goals in the league for the Rams and appears to have that ability to make something special happen out of nothing.
On loan, he would unquestionably be a fantastic acquisition for Marcelo Bielsa’s side if they go up. Perhaps however, Leeds’ top Championship target should they go up should be neither Wilson or Dan James – who the Yorkshire Evening Post reported Leeds could go back in for after the deadline day saga concerning the winger – but should instead be another attacking player capturing the imagination with his form.
Jarrod Bowen is enjoying a remarkable campaign with Hull City. The 22-year-old has now scored 18 league goals this term despite predominantly playing out on the right rather than through the middle.
The Daily Mail suggested ahead of the January window that Leeds were one of the teams keen on signing the youngster. But with Sky Sports suggesting around a similar time that Hull wanted £20 million for Bowen, it was a link that seemed to lose steam very quickly.
However, if Leeds are promoted, that price-tag will seem a lot more reasonable. Of course, Andrea Radrizzani may be reluctant to splash eight-figure sums on players who are unproven at the highest level. But perhaps there may be scope for a deal to be done for a lower price.
Bowen is not a one-season wonder. He has scored 32 league goals since the start of last season, which is remarkable for a player that is not a central striker. That kind of form suggests that he would make a big impact at England’s top table if given a chance.
And with Bielsa’s guidance, Leeds could be the ideal place for Bowen to take his game to the next level should the Whites get promoted.
A loan for Wilson would, by no means, be underwhelming. But perhaps Bowen is the current second tier star that Bielsa should have his eye firmly fixed on heading into this summer.
