Leeds to pay 62.5% more than planned for ‘incredible’ ace, but he’s still a bargain – Our View

According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United will have to pay £13m to make Jack Harrison’s loan move permanent this summer.

Harrison has spent three seasons on loan at Leeds, and he’s now widely expected to make that move permanent this summer, with Harrison suggesting in February that he’ll be staying as United finally look to activate their option to buy the winger.

Originally, Leeds had the option to buy Harrison for just £8m, but after the coronavirus delay towards the end of last season, they had to renegotiate the deal with Manchester City, meaning that the price went up to £13m, a rise of 62.5 per cent.

However, despite the fact he’ll cost 62.5% more than Leeds had planned to pay for him last summer, it has to be said that at £13m, the winger dubbed ‘incredible’ by Leon Osman is still a bargain.

Think about it, he’s a 24-year-old winger who’s just had an incredible debut season in the Premier League, contributing to 16 goals in the top-flight.

To pay £13m for a player who grabbed eight goals and eight assists in the Premier League last season is almost unheard of these days, but due to Leeds’ foresight on Harrison, they can land him for that modest fee.

We have to say that Harrison may already be worth a lot more than that, and while this isn’t as big a bargain as it would have been at £8m, it’s still a ridiculously good deal.

Of course, it’s easy to get bogged down in negativity and say that Leeds made a mistake in not landing him for £8m when they could, but in the grand scheme of things, they’re landing a ready-made winger who is a perfect-fit for their system for just £13m.

Should Leeds have signed him for cheaper? Possibly, but we can’t imagine that Victor Orta is losing much sleep over an extra £5m for a £13m winger who contributed to 16 goals last season.
