Leeds United striker Caleb Ekuban will be unavailable for the Whites for a number of weeks.

According to a report on Leeds’ official website, Caleb Ekuban will miss the next six weeks after fracturing a bone in his foot during the recent win over Queens Park Rangers.

Ekuban missed much of the early part of the season after picking up a similar injury shortly after his summer arrival – but his return after three months on the sidelines saw the striker really start to prove why the Whites had brought him to the club.

The Ghanaian forced his way into a starting spot after a couple of bright substitute appearances. And while he did not get onto the scoresheet, he earned plenty of plaudits for his performances – largely due to his tireless running that often created openings for his teammates.

Unfortunately for the 23-year-old, he suffered another foot injury in the win over QPR. And the club have confirmed on their official website that he is set to miss the next six weeks, but Thomas Christiansen suggested that it is better news than they were expecting.

“Caleb has been very unlucky to pick up this injury however he does not require surgery which will make the process quicker than we first thought,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s a blow for all of us as Caleb is a big part of our plans, although with Pierre-Michel Lasogga returning to training last week and Kemar Roofe and Jay-Roy Grot available to us, who can both play down the middle, shows how strong our squad is.”

Unfortunately for Ekuban’s own situation, Kemar Roofe stepped up in brilliant fashion at Loftus Road as he scored a hat-trick to inspire Leeds to a victory, and Pierre-Michel Lasogga should soon be back to make the pecking order even more congested.

And Christiansen will be hoping that Ekuban’s return in the new year provides the same lift that it provided when he came back into the fold in November as there is no question that between the three of them, Ekuban, Roofe and Lasogga give the Whites a fantastic amount of versatility in the striker department – and that may be crucial when the season reaches the business end.
