Josh Brownhill made his Bristol City debut in Luke Ayling’s final game for the club before his move to Leeds United.

TEAMtalk reports that Brownhill is out of contract at the end of the season, and, while there is an option for a further 12 months, the length of time left to run arguably means that, if he does leave in the near future, he will probably cost less than a player of his calibre would usually cost.

If Leeds do decide to try and make a move happen, they will undoubtedly be hoping that he proves to be as astute a signing as a player who was playing for Bristol City for the final time before leaving for Leeds on the day Brownhill made his debut for the Robins.
The opening day of the 2016/17 season saw City win 2-1 at home to Wigan thanks to two late goals. In the midfield for three-quarters of the game was Brownhill – making his first appearance following a summer move from Barnsley – while behind him in the defence was Luke Ayling.
Ayling cost Leeds just £750,000 just a few days later, according to the Daily Mail, and few Whites fans will argue that there has been many signings since their relegation from the Premier League that have proved to be better value for money.

Ayling has generally been incredibly reliable during his time at Elland Road, establishing himself as one of the first names in the team on a weekly basis and rarely putting in a performance that has been below par.
And if Leeds can convince Brownhill to make the move – which will be a difficult task given Bristol City’s current position in the table – they will undoubtedly be delighted if he proves anything like as astute a signing as Ayling was.
