Leeds targeting Moise Kean may frustrate fans, but deal could be inspired

Leeds United have been linked with a summer move for Juventus-owned striker Moise Kean.

According to a recent report from Gianluca Di Marzio, Leeds are interested in signing Juventus-owned teenager Moise Kean in the summer once his loan spell at Hellas Verona comes to an end.

For Leeds fans who have become frustrated with the club’s transfer business during this window, reports of interest in a 17-year-old may well add to the discontent regarding the Whites’ activity in the market.

Andrea Radrizzani has certainly done a terrific job since taking full control of the Championship side – most notably, buying back Elland Road – but the way that the club have approached the transfer windows has led to some criticism.

Thomas Christiansen’s side are, once again, in the play-off picture this season, and having watched their challenge capitulate in dramatic fashion last term after a quiet January window – though under a completely different management team – the fans would have been urging Radrizzani and Victor Orta to sign some players who can immediately boost the first-team.

Three signings have been made so far, but only Laurens De Bock has gone into Christiansen’s first-team, with Aapo Halme linking up with the under-23s and Yosuke Ideguchi heading out on loan for the rest of the season.

So while Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Leeds are looking at Kean for the summer, the fact that the report suggests that an enquiry has been made may leave those already frustrated now scratching their heads wondering why the club are supposedly concentrating some of their energy on a young striker who will not contribute to keeping the Whites in the promotion picture this season.

But perhaps the Leeds hierarchy should be given a pass on this particular occasion as Kean looks like he could be an inspired addition.

The 17-year-old – who was born just a few days before Nigel Martyn’s inspired display helped Leeds to a goalless draw away at Roma in the UEFA Cup – is already playing top flight football in Italy, making 15 appearances in the competition this season.

He has also featured in the Champions League and has been prolific for Italy’s national youth sides, so if Leeds can bring him to the club, that would undoubtedly be a coup for the Whites.

After last season, Leeds fans are surely well within their right to ask for the club to spend this window targeting and signing players who will hopefully help the Whites across the line this term – but on this occasion, having one eye on the future could help the club pull off an absolutely inspired move this summer.
