Leeds United have been linked with a move for Giovanni Troupee, but are the Championship side making the right decision targeting the teenager?

According to a report from De Telegraaf, Leeds are among the host of sides interested in signing Utrecht youngster Giovanni Troupee on loan for the rest of the season.

In an ideal world, Thomas Christiansen would strengthen his options on the right-hand side of the defence. Luke Ayling looks set to be out for the rest of the season due to injury, leaving only Gaetano Berardi and a couple of makeshift options available within the first-team currently.

Christiansen could decide to call Bryce Hosannah up to the first-team if the deadline comes and goes without a new face coming in, but it appears that the Leeds boss is also considering making a move to sign Troupee on loan.

De Telegraaf reports that the 19-year-old could join the Championship side, but there are also three Serie A outfits in the running to land him on a temporary basis.

But surely a move for Troupee makes little sense when, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post earlier in the month, Leeds could bring Lewie Coyle back to Elland Road from his loan spell at Fleetwood Town.

At the end of the day, it appears much more likely that Coyle is going to be the long-term choice at right-back, with Troupee only in contention for a loan switch, so having him rivalling Berardi for the rest of the campaign could help bring the best out of both men and help push Coyle up another level.

The Leeds academy graduate has enjoyed an excellent loan spell at Fleetwood, so it would be understandable if Christiansen wanted to leave him at Highbury where he is going to be a first-team regular rather than bring him back into the mix at this point.

However, with Berardi something of a utility player for Leeds this term, Coyle returning may make a lot more sense than trying to bring Troupee in for the rest of the season if they sense that there is little chance of agreeing something more than a loan deal for the Utrecht man.
