Leeds United have already added a number of impressive signings this summer, both for Marcelo Bielsa’s first team and for the developmental ranks.
On Tuesday, it became clear that Leeds were nearing another addition, with defender Diego Llorente nearing a move.
Reports from San Sebastian-based newspaper Noticias de Gipuzkoa reported that a deal worth up to €20million (£18.3million) had been agreed between Real Sociedad and Leeds.
Later in the day, Real Sociedad confirmed the agreement on their official website, noting that the deal was subject to a medical and international clearance.
If any Leeds fans had fears that the 27-year-old may not end up at Elland Road, they can be quashed tonight due to Llorente’s Twitter message this evening.
Llorente has posted an emotional farewell message to Sociedad and their fans, having spent more than three years with the club.
The centre back said thank you to all at Sociedad as he prepares to make his move to England, which should now be confirmed very soon.
Llorente is a Spanish international who is quick and impressive on the ball, making him a good fit for Bielsa’s side – and with tonight’s message, his move to West Yorkshire seems all but done.
