Burnley winger Aaron Lennon is being linked with a return to Leeds United.
The January transfer window may have only just ended, but Leeds United are allegedly eyeing up a summer addition already.
The Whites missed out on Swansea City winger Daniel James on deadline day, as noted by the Yorkshire Evening Post, leaving Marcelo Bielsa without an addition out wide.
With Jack Harrison only on loan and Jack Clarke attracting interest, Leeds may return for James over the summer – but a different winger is being linked.
The Sun report that Leeds are eyeing a move to re-sign winger Aaron Lennon, and Bielsa is running checks on him ahead of a potential summer deal.
Lennon, 31, started out in the Leeds ranks before heading to Tottenham in 2005, and some have wondered whether he would be interested in returning to his hometown club one day.
Lennon is currently out with injury at Burnley, but a summer move may be the ideal time for Leeds to try and re-sign him, especially if they win promotion back to the Premier League.
Lennon still has enough left in the tank to be a real threat for Leeds out wide, whilst also being a potentially ideal mentor for Clarke on the right flank.
Lennon isn’t guaranteed to be a Burnley starter when he returns from injury either. Johann Berg Gudmundsson is back, whilst youngster Dwight McNeil has burst onto the scene this season.
Leeds are at their highest point since Lennon left, and if they were ever going to bring him back whilst still feeling that he had something to offer, then the summer is the time to do it.
With his spot at Burnley less than guaranteed and Leeds on the rise, there is surely a great chance that the Whites can actually pull this one off and bring Lennon home to Elland Road, 14 years since his departure.
