Leeds summer target Moussa Konate inspires Amiens’ 4-1 win

Leeds United were reportedly looking at a £6 million move for Moussa Konate over the summer.

It was reported by the Daily Mirror (08/08; page 51) that Leeds were considering a £6 million bid for Moussa Konate while the permanent transfer window was open in the Championship.

Konate however, remains with Ligue 1 side Amiens and Marcelo Bielsa would not get another forward in having already purchased Patrick Bamford from Middlesbrough earlier in the window.

Missing out on the 25-year-old does not appear to have cost Leeds during the opening weeks of the season however. The Whites are the early pace-setters in the Championship and Bamford has barely been required with Kemar Roofe doing a fantastic job of leading the line.

Nevertheless, Konate is performing superbly during the opening stages of the French campaign and it would be little surprise if Leeds were perhaps keeping one eye on his progress.

The Senegal international has scored three times in the top flight, and enjoyed a stunning afternoon at the weekend as Amiens saw off Reims 4-1.

Konate scored twice and provided an assist to help his side to their first league win of the campaign. The handful of early goals puts him well on his way to beating last season’s return of 13 goals in the top flight.

And while Leeds will be delighted with Roofe’s brilliant form and Bamford’s start to life at Elland Road, perhaps Konate is just giving the Championship leaders a reason to monitor his performances over the coming months in case they plan to strengthen their options further in January.
