The Leeds United forward needs to get a few goals under his belt.

When Leeds United signed Marcus Antonsson back in the summer, he was tipped to take Elland Road by storm after scoring 25 goals in 47 appearances for Kalmar.

Things have not gone according to plan thus far, with Whites teammate Chris Wood the undisputed first-choice forward at Elland Road and Antonsson having to make do with a bit-part role to date.

Still, the upcoming FA Cup third round clash with Cambridge United should see the 25-year-old Swede get a much needed outing, and he will surely be desperate to kick-start his campaign having already impressed his new fans with his work rate.

There is more to a forward’s play than merely scoring but goals are their bread and butter, and if Antonsson can fill his boots against Cambridge it should give him the confidence to kick on for the rest of the campaign.

Much has been made of the problems Leeds will have if Wood is injured or suspended yet Antonsson now has the chance to prove he can step up, albeit against lower league opposition.

It only takes one dominant performance to get a striker firing on all cylinders once more and for Leeds’ summer signing that could be this Monday evening.
