It was a good weekend for Leeds United all round it seems.
On-loan Leeds United hitman Marcus Antonsson opened his account for Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
The Swedish striker, deemed surplus to requirements by Leeds head coach Thomas Christiansen last month, scored the second goal in a 3-0 win at Rochdale yesterday.
But he appears to have landed on his feet after joining Rovers, who have won three of their five games since dropping down into League One, with Antonsson starting two of those.
The 26-year-old, a £2 million signing by Garry Monk last summer, was given something of a raw deal during his first – and potentially last – season at Elland Road, starting just six Championship games before being frozen out of the team by the now-Middlesbrough boss.
Nevertheless, his attitude and application made him a popular figure among Leeds fans – well, as popular as a player can be without contributing a great deal to the team – and supporters of the Elland Road club wished him congratulations on Twitter.
It was a good weekend for Antonsson, and a superb one for his parent club.
Christiansen’s side moved second in the Championship with a 5-0 demolition of Burton Albion, with new signing Pierre-Michel Lassoga – one of three strikers brought in this summer since Antonsson’s exit – scoring twice on his debut.
At the moment, it would not appear as if there’s room for the former Kalmar marksman at Leeds, but an outstanding season with Rovers would certainly give the 44-year-old manager something to think about next summer.
