Leeds United travel to Aston Villa in a crucial Championship clash on Sunday.
Kemar Roofe has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he is expecting an excellent atmosphere when Leeds travel to Villa Park to take on Aston Villa on Sunday, with the striker seeing similarities between the two sets of supporters.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men will be hoping to regain top spot in the Championship when they face Dean Smith’s side. But Leeds will have to try and stop a Villa team that are unbeaten in their last seven fixtures.
Villa are the second-highest scorers in the division and boast the worst defensive record of any team in the top-half of the table, so it promises to be a very intriguing contest. But while the outcome may seem too difficult to call at this stage, Roofe suggested that the teams can rely on the two sets of fans to create a special big fight feel inside the stadium.
“Going to Villa Park it’s very tough, they are a very good team with good players and the stadium is very nice,” he said, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post. “The fan base is similar to Leeds and the atmosphere will be a very good one.”
Despite Leeds losing top spot on Saturday, you would imagine that Villa will be feeling the greater pressure.
Smith’s men are currently 12 points off the automatic-promotion spots, so a defeat would be a major blow for the Villans, especially as they are at home, where they have only lost once this season.
To some, Leeds may actually be underdogs for this game. Their long list of injuries in defence makes Villa, on paper, one of the worst teams for them to face.
But having proven a lot of people wrong already this season, Bielsa’s men will be more than confident that they can surprise those who doubt them heading into Sunday.
