Former Feyenoord team-mate Lutsharel Geertruida is urging Crysencio Summerville to ‘leave very quickly’ with the Leeds United talisman continuing his superb recent form under Daniel Farke.

Not that we needed it, of course, but the manner in which Leeds United’s number ten doubled his tally during Saturday’s 3-0 thrashing of Yorkshire rivals Rotherham told you all you needed to know about Crysencio Summerville’s current confidence levels.

Summerville had already put Leeds 2-0 up and slapped a thick layer of icing on top of a very tasty cake with a perfectly-executed Panenka penalty. His 15th of what is comfortably a career-best season from a forward who has taken his game up a number of levels since the appointment of former Norwich City and Borussia Monchengladbach coach Farke at Elland Road

The downside, however, is that every clinically-taken finish merely ramps up the speculation surrounding Summerville’s future.

Aston Villa have been heavily linked already. There is also interest from the youngster’s former employers, Feyenoord selling Summerville for just £1.3 million back in 2020 and probably regretting that decision now.

Feyenoord defender Geertruida, meanwhile, did not miss the opportunity to give his former team-mate some advice of his own after that Rotherham rampage. Advice that will not make Geertruida a particularly popular presence with the Leeds fanbase.

“Leave very quickly in the summer,” the 2023 Eredivisie winner writes in response to Summerville’s latest Instagram post, adding three exclamation marks just to emphasise his point.

Feyenoord rule out return

Fortunately for Farke, a potential return to De Kuip is not going to become a reality any time soon. Feyenoord coach Arne Slot confirmed as much last week, Summerville simply ‘too expensive’ these days with his value surely rising to a fee well in excess of £20 million.

“We have not been able to find a player who strengthens us in attack and who was feasible for us,” Slot, who guided Feyenoord to their first title since 2017 last season, tells Voetbal Zone. “Otherwise, he would have been there.

“It is not difficult to find such a player. I’ve said that before, because I can think of a lot (of players such as this). However, it must also fit within our financial possibilities. A player must want to come to us and have the will to play in the Eredivisie.

“I’ll just mention a name so you can write about it again. I would have liked to see Summerville on our side. But he is too expensive.

“I have found him an interesting player for a long time.”
