Leeds United star Pontus Jansson felt that now was the right time to respond to a concern a Swedish journalist expressed about him in the summer.

Following Leeds’ 1-0 win over Sheffield United on Saturday, Pontus Jansson has taken to Twitter to hit back at an observation Swedish journalist Peter Hyllman made in the summer.

Jansson was superb as the Whites bagged all three points at Bramall Lane. Marcelo Bielsa’s men suffered a setback in the early stages as Liam Cooper had to be taken off with a knee injury.

That left Jansson to lead a back three consisting of midfielder Kalvin Phillips and Aapo Halme – who was making only his second senior appearance for the Whites – against one of the Championship’s most lethal attacks.

And while Leeds rode their luck at times, Jansson was superb. The setback seemed to bring the best out of him – and that is perhaps why the centre-back decided to respond to a tweet from the summer.

The journalist expressed a concern that the 27-year-old would not be the right kind of player to thrive in a Bielsa system.

Hyllman may have felt somewhat vindicated in his opinion during the opening weeks of the season as Cooper and Gaetano Berardi appeared to be establishing themselves as the first-choice pairing.

But since Jansson has got a chance, he has looked a lot more like the talisman that he was during his first season at Leeds. And the leadership that he showed against the Blades will give the Whites some confidence that they will be able to deal with whatever setback comes their way regarding Cooper’s injury.

And that display may have perhaps been the reason the former Malmo man decided to hit back at Hyllman’s comment from several months ago, tweeting: ‘How can this clown even get a blog on fotbollskanalen’…
